Description
The Red House is a old farmhouse, set in panoramic position above the medieval hamlet of Montemagno, near Calci, Tuscany. Montemagno has ancient origins and is known as the birthplace of Pope Eugene III in the 11th century. The property is accessed via the main road which crosses the old hamlet and then turns into a white road, winding through manicured olive groves.
The owner bought the farmhouse nearly 20 years ago, and despite needing a total renovation, decided to follow his vision and converted it into a family home for a large family. The vision was to create a place where the authentic soul of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse meets clean, contemporary lines, all while ensuring full energy independence. This is reflected in the choice of pearl-white lime wash, which elegantly veils the exposed stonework of the ground floor and the beamed ceilings. Light-toned micro-cement flooring floods the interiors with natural light, while the bathrooms are finished in Tadelakt—a natural, seamless plaster typical of Moroccan hammams.
